Striker Yazan Al-Naimat came through for Jordan, scoring twice – once in each half – while striker Wessam Abouli scored the lone goal for Palestine as the game approached half-time.
“It was quite lively. There was a lot of attacking and counter-attacking,” said another fan.
Due to the ongoing war in Gaza, the Palestinian squad chose to host the match in Malaysia.
“I feel quite honoured that Palestine is able to play in Malaysia,” said one fan.
Jordan bounced back quickly in the second half as Al-Naimat scored again in the 50th minute. The team secured their win with midfielder Noor Al-Deen Al-Rawabdeh’s goal in the penalty box in the 72nd minute.
This was Jordan’s first win after a 1-1 draw with Kuwait in Amman last week. Despite a strong start to the qualifiers, Palestine suffered their first defeat after a goalless draw against South Korea on Thursday. Around 1,000 football fans flooded into the stadium to support both teams.
