Vast crowds of football supporters were seen outside a stadium in Dortmund on Tuesday ahead of the EURO 2024 tie between Georgia and Turkey.

Footage shows rowdy Georgian fans lighting flares, beating drums and dancing with red crosses painted on their faces. Meanwhile, Turkish supporters are seen walking to the stadium with national flags.

"Today is a very important day for Georgian football because it is the first time we have participated in this tournament. And this tournament will be historical for us," a Georgian fan said.

"I watched football from my childhood with my father; it has always been a family sport for us," added a fan from Turkey.

A fight reportedly broke out between Turkish and Georgian fans at the Westfalenstadion stadium in Dortmund before the match. Police were able to quell the commotion without further incident.

Turkey face Georgia in their opening game of Group F, alongside Portugal and the Czech Republic.

Georgia is playing in the first major tournament in its history and is widely seen as the underdog in Group F.

Meanwhile, Turkey lost all three of its group stage matches in its last Euro outing, although it showed strong form in qualifying this year, topping its group, which included the 2022 World Cup finalist Croatia.
