Dozens of protesters rallied in Dakar on Sunday, in solidarity with Palestine and to demand a severance of diplomatic ties with Israel.

"To shout for justice, because what's happening is a serious global injustice and the world's great leaders are turning a blind eye to so much injustice," Mohamed, a Palestinian protester living in Dakar, said.

He went on to call for a boycott of Israeli products with the goal to affect those who he said were acting unjustly. 'Demonstrating is good, boycotting is better," he concluded.

Footage features protesters rallying, chanting and holding placards and banners bearing slogans such as 'better than protesting, boycott' and 'for justice, truth and peace, solidarity with the brother people of Palestine, free Palestine'.

"Yes, out of solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Palestine and with all the oppressed people of the world, because what is happening today in Palestine is unacceptable and everything has gone too far," Elimane Kane, a Senegalese protester stated.

19 Senegalese civil society organisations, dubbed the 'War in Gaza' coalition, have reportedly sent a letter to the country's president to call for a severance of diplomatic relations with Israel in light of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has publicly expressed his support on the issue, urging President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to join South Africa and other countries in defending Gaza, according to media reports.

Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200 according to Israeli officials.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 37,551 people had been killed at the time of publication.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
