Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that if his doctor had allowed him, he would have 'very much' liked to have joined Hungarian President Viktor Orban during his visits to Kiev and Moscow.

This was said in Bratislava on Saturday, at the ceremony celebrating Slovakia's public holiday dedicated to the Saints Cyril and Methodius, during Fico's first appearance since an assassination attempt last May.

"Forgive me for my honesty, I want to express my gratitude to the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for not hesitating and going to Kiev and Moscow. If my doctor had allowed me, I would very much like to join him," Fico said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Hungarian Prime Minister and current President of the Council of the EU, Viktor Orban went to Kiev and called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to consider a ceasefire in Ukraine.

In turn, Zelensky insisted on the importance of a 'fair peace' for his country.

Robert Fico was shot in the abdomen while greeting supporters after a government meeting in Handlova on May 15.

The perpetrator of the shooting was a 71-year-old man presented by prosecutors as Juraj C. who was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted premeditated murder.

Fico was shot in the abdomen and taken to a hospital in Banska Bystrica in serious condition.

He underwent surgery for more than five hours, followed by another operation two days later, before leaving the hospital at the end of May.
