Description

A restaurant in Baoding, central Hebei Province, has created a unique dining experience, with tables set in the middle of a large 'aquarium' and colourful Koi carp swimming around the tables.

"Sitting inside feels especially good, like being in an aquarium," said one diner. "Although there are many fish here, there is no odour, and it is very clean. The environment is excellent, giving the feeling of being in a pond."

Footage captured on Sunday features customers enjoying both the schools of fish and the food.

One restaurant worker Yang Jie said that the design with its 'traditional and antique charm' aims to offer attendees a 'unique dining experience on the water.' She also said that the Koi carp, also called 'fortune fish 'or 'noble fish', are regarded as symbols of 'peace and friendship'.

"Due to their vibrant colours, Koi are like peonies in water… They not only provide aesthetic enjoyment but also symbolise good luck, joy, prosperity, and happiness, which is why they are deeply loved by people. Koi fish are high-quality, high-taste ornamental fish, symbolising wealth, good fortune, health, and happiness, making them highly cherished by many," she added.

Koi are popular across Asia, with one fifth of Japan's 6.3 billion yen (43 million dollars) in exports going to China, according to media reports.
