Serbia's Interior Minister Ivica Dacic called 'a terrorist attack' incident that happened in Belgrade on Saturday when unknown perpetrator used crossbow to attack the police officer guarding Israeli embassy.
"The suspect's identity hasn't been confirmed, it is clearly a terrorist attack. A terrorist attack against the state of Serbia and against a police officer. Whether this individual acted alone or there was a group, we arrested other people as a preventive measure who were seen near police headquarters," he said.
Dacic further announced the police suspects the detainees to be the part of the Wahhabi movement in Serbia, an islamist sect present in various countries across Europe.
According to reports, an attacker shot a member of the Serbian Gendarmerie with a crossbow in front of the Israeli embassy in the capital city.
The officer, who was seriously injured managed to fire back at the assailant killing him on the spot.
The officer was transported to a hospital in a conscious state, where an operation to remove the arrow from the neck is expected to be performed.
The exact circumstances and motive for the attack have yet to be determined pending a formal investigation.
