Torrential rains have lashed the Bechar Province in southwestern Algeria over the weekend, unleashing flash floods across the mostly arid region.
Footage captured in the city of Bechar on Saturday shows torrents of water raging down a street, inundating homes and flooding nearby roads and valleys.
The National Gendarmerie's Traffic Information and Coordination Center reported on its official Facebook page that Bechar Province experienced a "rise in water levels on National Road 06, particularly on the section connecting the municipalities of Beni Ounif and Béchar, leading to its closure to traffic."
The National Meteorological Office had forecasted rainfall across the region, accompanied by hail and warning of thunderstorms in some areas.
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Morocco, floods in the Tata Province, located in the southeast, have resulted in eight deaths and at least 15 missing, according to local news reports.
