Description

Thousands of people gathered in Zhong Sha Lu, Shibing county to witness the 'world’s longest dragon boat' in action on Saturday.

"It's very big and very impressive. This is very different from what I imagined before. I thought the hundred-metre dragon boat was just 100 metres and was very thin, but actually, this is a wider one. It looks magnificent and shocking," said one visitor.

Footage shows volunteers carrying the 100-metre-long dragon boat. Construction vehicles can be seen lowering the boat onto the river. Footage also shows residents marching in traditional attire, representing the cultures of southeastern Guizhou.

One visitor, Li, said that she was 'shocked to see this atmosphere today', adding: "I have seen [dragon boating] on television and my mobile phone sometimes, and then I thought that they rowed so fast and maybe it was really easy to practice. However, when I came to watch it at the scene, I found that they are sweating."

According to the World Guinness Records, the record for the longest dragon boat was accomplished on June 1, 2024 by the Yiyang Lanxi Town Beian Xincun Villagers' Committee in Yiyang, Hunan, China, measuring an impressive 100.9 meters in length.

The boat, with a width of approximately 1.88 meters and a weight of 6 tons, features 105 compartments and has the capacity to seat 420 paddlers.
