German Chancellor Angela Merkel shared a message of hope with citizens for the New Year while speaking about the challenges of the COVID-19, in Berlin, in a pre-recorded broadcast on Wednesday.
Merkel said, "hope has got a face; it is the faces of the first people vaccinated, the very old and their carers and nurses, medical staff in intensive care unit, not only here by us, but in all European and many others countries."
Merkel thanked citizens for their "tremendous trust and patience" and "for showing historic show of strength" in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
She criticised groups that deny the virus, "I can only guess how bitter some people must feel for those who have to mourn a loved one because of Corona or have to struggle a lot with the after effects of an illness, when the virus is denied by some incorrigible people."
"Conspiracy theories are not only untrue and dangerous, they are also cynical and cruel towards these people," she added.
