Flash floods swept the northern and eastern regions of the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, as the country recorded the heaviest rainfall in 75 years.

Footage filmed shows flooded valleys and streets.

“The country experienced its heaviest downpour since the climate data was officially recorded in 1949, about 75 years ago”, the National Centre of Meteorology stated.

The organisation added that Wednesday would also see more rain over western regions, as well as further lightning, thunder and possible hailstorms.

The government said the employees should work from home on Tuesday and Wednesday, with schools switched to 'remote learning'.

The UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, have all experienced the extreme weather, with 19 people reported killed in Oman.
