Dozens of students from different schools in the town of Malvinas in Buenos Aires have painted a 20m x 32m portrait of Argentine football star and goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, nicknamed 'Dibu', on the pitch in Villa de Mayo in honour of his success and achievements.

"It represented hope, it is as simple as that, it is something that we always experience in football. We love football as people," said Sebastian Ramirez, a teacher and an artist. "We see that they have taken the epic of Argentine football to such a high place that makes me happy".

Footage filmed on Friday shows a group of students painting a portrait of Emiliano Martinez using brushes and black and white paint and carefully adding lines and details to create a massive portrait. Wearing his Argentina jersey number 23, Martinez can be seen in the painting catching a football to represent his move during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.

"For me, Dibu is like everything, he is a national team goalkeeper, and he is the most Argentinian of Argentinians because he represents us quite well, represents our liveliness, our charisma that he also has, that he unfolds," said another student Tobias Almeida.

The Qatar 2022 World Cup was full of unforgettable moments that paved the way for Argentina to become world champions. One standout moment was Dibu's crucial save on forward Kolo Muani in the final seconds of the game against France, which led to penalties.

"And from that moment on, Dibu became one of the greatest figures in Argentine soccer. Nothing like that has been seen in the World Cup, he was unique," said Alam, a student.

Earlier, Argentinian football fans created a giant mosaic made entirely of plastic bottle caps as a tribute to football legend and World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi.
