Thousands of Palestine and Lebanon supporters flocked to the streets of London on Saturday to support Palestine and Lebanon and demand that the government suspend arms supplies to Israel during the demonstration held ahead of the first anniversary of ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Footage shows police officers mobilising to patrol the protest as well as some of them are seen detaining a protesters during the demonstration.

According to media reports, at least 17 demonstrators were arrested across the capital as a part of the police operation. Two protesters were reportedly detained for alleged support of a proscribed organisation as well as three were arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

Footage also shows protesters marching with Palestinian flags, banners and placards reading 'Freedom for Palestine,' 'Stop arming Israel' and others. Some of the protesters are seen holding Israeli flags and placards reading 'Shut up and free hostages.'

"There is no need for a genocide in 2024," said one of the protesters Janet.

Another protester Tabi condemned the UK and the US governments, saying that they 'continue to fund and arm genocide.' She also added that Israel 'has no regard for international law.'

"There are no hostages in Lebanon, there is no reason to do an invasion there," she continued.

"It's going on too long and our government is complicit with the arms sales and all this diplomatic support, which is hypocritical. They say Israel has 'her' 'right to defend 'herself' but do Palestinians who are occupied not have a right? So, I am here to support Palestine, all day, every day," said protester Jacob, addressing the local government.

The demonstration organised by the pro-Palestine groups and movements including the Palestine Solidarity Campaign advanced from Russell Square to Whitehall, according to media reports. In the meantime, a counter-protest was reportedly held on Kingsway and Aldwych streets.

Similar protests have erupted globally as Hamas' October 7 attack on Israel, which have spurred numerous other conflicts in the Middle East, nears its first anniversary.

Palestinian group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Gaza Strip, Israel launched a large-scale response of airstrikes and a ground incursion. Palestinian officials reported that 41,825 people had been killed and more than 96,910 injured at the time of publication.

Lebanese, Iranian, and Palestinian factions have been exchanging cross-border shelling with Israeli forces since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza which also led to the deaths of several leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran.

Several nations have echoed the call for the end of conflict in the enclave as they raised concerns on the dwindling humanitarian situation in the region while some assert Israel's right to defend itself.
