German national football team's head coach Julian Nagelsmann during the press conference in Herzogenaurach on Saturday shared he is 'fighting back tears' commenting on the loss in the Euro 2024 quarter final game with Spain.

"This home European Championship was simply very special, it's a unique opportunity, probably in my or our career. It won't repeat like this, which is why it hurts so much," he said.

Nagelsmann added that some players cried after the game while 'a lot of players had tears in their eyes in different situations and during hugs'.

"There are various reasons why some things sometimes work and sometimes not. That's just the way it is. It wasn't because of them that we were eliminated yesterday, but because we are a large group, both in the event of success and failure, all of whom have a responsibility for everything," Nagelsmann concluded.

Earlier on Friday, the quarter final clash in Stuttgart ended with a 2-1 score after the Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino's goal on the 119th minute erased Germany's hopes for the semi-finals.

According to the media reports, it was another defeat in the game against Spain as Germany hasn't won a tournament against the country since 1988. Germany also lost as a host nation as the only other host nation to win a Euro was France in 1984.
