Presidential candidate Saeed Jalili rallied his supporters on Tuesday in Khorramabad, Lorestan province, ahead of the upcoming second round of the Iranian presidential election scheduled for Friday.

Arriving at Khorramabad airport, Jalili was welcomed by a crowd of supporters waving Iranian flags and displaying photos of both Jalili and former President Ibrahim Raisi.

During his address, Jalili invoked the memory of Qasem Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force who was assassinated in Baghdad, emphasising the potential impact of empowered Iranians in global affairs. "If every Iranian is given the opportunity to play their role, figures like Soleimani will make the world uneasy for the arrogant," Jalili proclaimed.

Jalili also criticised the negotiation efforts of the previous reformist government under President Hassan Rouhani, particularly regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal. He accused the negotiating team of making concessions to forces he described as hostile to Iran.

The second round of the presidential elections is scheduled for Friday, 5th July, following a first-round where no candidate secured the required 50% of the votes. Jalili garnered 39% of the votes, trailing behind the front-runner Bazeshkian who received 42%.

The elections were advanced by a year due to the tragic helicopter crash on 19th May, which claimed the lives of President Ibrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and six other senior officials in Iran's northwestern mountains.
