The first black jaguar cub born in Iran was unveiled at Safadasht Zoo in Alborz Province, west of Tehran, in footage filmed on Wednesday.
"For the first time in the country's history, we were able to breed black jaguars," said zookeeper Ali Jihadi. "It is a male cub and in good health."
The keeper can be seen petting the cub - which is yet to be named - with tourists flocking to see the latest arrival.
“It is very special to see a black jaguar born here," said one of them, Reza Hahdavi. "People were happy to hear that; that was an honour."
"Some say we cannot take care of them and we just breed them; they say we don’t know anything about this," the zookeeper added, responding to critics of the programme. "[However] we have a plan for what we are doing here.”
Jaguars are native to the Americas, while just 11 percent of them have the black colouration. This cub's parents are the only pair of black jaguars in a zoo in Iran.
