IDF Northern Command Commander Ori Gordin stated Israel had “entered a new phase of the campaign" in the conflict with Hezbollah as the IDF's military strikes in southern Lebanon entered their third day.

Footage released by the IDF on Wednesday shows Gordin speaking with commanders and troops of the IDF's 7th Brigade on the northern border with Lebanon.

“The operation began with a significant blow to Hezbollah's capabilities, focusing on their firepower capabilities, and a very significant hit on the organisation's commanders and operatives. Facing this, we need to change the security situation, and we must be fully prepared for manoeuvres and action," he said.

Army chief Herzi Halevi was also reported to have told forces that the ongoing strikes were "both to prepare the ground for the possibility of your entry [into Lebanon], but also to continue striking Hezbollah".

The location of the footage released by the Israeli military has not been independently verified.

The third day of military escalation saw 51 people killed and 223 injured in Israeli airstrikes, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. According to Israeli media outlets, Hezbollah had fired over 30 rockets since the morning, wounding two people, one of them critically.

Hezbollah announced that it had targeted the Mossad headquarters on the outskirts of Tel Aviv on Wednesday morning, claiming that it was "the responsible headquarters for the assassination of commanders and the pagers and radio explosions," and had hit several Israeli army military sites in northern Israel.

The IDF announced its latest air assault, 'Operation Northern Arrows', on Monday. The attacks have killed 609 people and injured over 2,000 others since Monday, according to the latest report issued by the Lebanese Ministry of Health at time of publication. It was aimed at hundreds of Hezbollah targets in several areas in the south, the Bekaa Valley, and Mount Lebanon.

Tensions in southern Lebanon have escalated over the past week following the mass explosions of pagers and handheld radios used by Hezbollah - which Israel has not commented on - and the Israeli shelling of Beirut's southern suburb, which killed senior Hezbollah commander, Ibrahim Aqil, along with 60 others. Hezbollah has also launched a series of rocket attacks.

Hezbollah, as well as Lebanese and Palestinian factions, have been exchanging cross-border shelling with the Israeli forces since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza last October.
