Former MP Zohre Elahian registered to run for country’s snap elections at the Ministry of Interior's headquarters in Tehran on Monday, in an attempt to become Iran's first-ever woman presidential candidate.

Footage on Saturday shows candidate Zohre Elahian arriving at the polling centre and presenting her ID card to the press, before deliver her speech to reporters

The Iranian flag and images of the late President Ebrahim Raisi and some of his escorts, who died in a helicopter crash last month, were also shown behind Zahra.

The former MP vowed that her future government will bring attention to 'political and social freedoms', announcing that her motto is 'healthy government, a healthy economy, and a healthy society'.

If Zohre Elahian's application is approved by the Guardian Council, she will become the first female presidential contender in Iran's history.

After the completion of the candidates' application procedures, the Guardian Council evaluates the applications within a maximum of seven days.

Zohre Elahian, a doctor and former member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Parliament, was born in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah in 1968.

The presidential election aimed to replace President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash in May along with seven other people, is expected to be held on June 28.
