Local camel 'hairdressers' were seen giving the animals a unique makeover in Karachi on Monday, ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations, also known as the 'Feast of the Sacrifice'.

"I shape the designs with scissors and when people see them, they think they’re great and it makes them happy, ”explained stylist Ali Hassan.

Footage shows Hassan and others cutting into the rough camel hair in several stages before applying natural henna dyes to create the patterns.

The tradition takes place ahead of the annual market. The animals are sold and killed for sacrifice, with their meat cooked and shared among family and friends.

The second Muslim holiday, Eid al-Adha, is observed on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah. It lasts for four days, beginning after the Day of Arafat, which is the most significant pilgrimage for Muslims.
