Hundreds of mourners attended a funeral in Beirut on Thursday for Hezbollah commander Mohammed Nima Nasser, also known as 'Abu Nima', who was killed by Israeli shelling while travelling in a car near southern Lebanon's Tyre.

Footage shows large crowds, including Hezbollah supporters and militants, carrying Nasser's body through the streets in a casket as they headed for prayers at the Sayyid al-Shuhada compound in the suburbs of southern Beirut.

"We will never surrender. Our leaders are teaching us martyrdom to continue on this path, and we are proud of such leaders," a funeral attendee said.

Hashem Safi Al-Din, head of Hezbollah's Executive Council, has vowed the militant group will target new locations within Israel in retaliation to Nasser's passing.

"The replies are still ongoing to this hour and will continue to attack new locations that the enemy cannot imagine would be hit," he said.

In response to Nasser's death, Hezbollah reportedly attacked several locations in northern Israel and the Syrian Golan on Thursday.

According to an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) statement, it 'eliminated' Nasser on Wednesday, claiming he was a commander with the 'Hezbollah terrorist organization's Aziz Unit' and directly responsible for attacks on Israeli territory.

"Naser was the counterpart of Sami Taleb Abdullah, the commander of the Nasser Unit, who was eliminated last month. Together, they served as two of the most significant Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon," the statement added.

The exchanging of shells between the IDF and Hezbollah, Lebanese, and Palestinian factions in the border areas started on October 8, one day after the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on the Gaza Strip.
