Description

At least one shop and multiple residential buildings were severely damaged during airstrikes in Vilniansk, Zaparozhie district, late Saturday night. Footage from the scene on Sunday depicted shattered buildings, debris-strewn streets, and vehicles with broken windows.

Locals and emergency personnel were seen clearing rubble and assessing the extent of the destruction. "The glass is broken, the windows are all broken, the medicines are all spoiled, refrigerators, household appliances, everything is spoiled," said Victoria, a resident.

According to Ivan Fedorov, the Regional Governor of Zaporizhzhia district, the airstrikes claimed the lives of seven people. He reported on Telegram that the total number of casualties has risen to 36, with additional individuals seeking medical attention independently.

Among the injured are a pregnant woman and nine children, many of whom received treatment at home, according to Ukrainian media.

Responding to the attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took to social media to urge for more support in combating "Russian combat aircraft."

Meanwhile, Russia has not commented on the specific airstrikes, reiterating its stance of targeting only military-linked sites and denying involvement in strikes on civilian infrastructure.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
