Iran's upcoming presidential election would have no bearings on the efforts to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) also known as the Iran nuclear deal, according to Iranian government spokesperson Ali Rabiei speaking in Tehran on Tuesday.

"The nuclear case is a national case on which the Islamic Republic of Iran has agreed and it is not related to our internal changes," said Ali Rabiei speaking at Kowsar Presidential Building.

The announcement comes as Iran gears up for its next presidential election on June 18. Many have speculated that the election of a hardliner, such as conservative cleric Ebrahim Raisi to the post, could upset efforts to revive the deal.
