Amid what seems to be one of the lowest voter turnouts in Iran history, Judiciary head and conservative cleric Ebrahim Raisi won the Islamic Republic presidential election on Saturday.

"Mr Seyed Ebrahim Raisi won first place with 17,926,345 votes and was elected as the head of the executive system and the president by the people," announced Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in Tehran.

"The voter turnout rate was 48.8 percent," added the Interior Minister signalling the low turnout in the elections.
