A Turkish fan expressed mixed feelings about their team's chances, stating, "I really think our strong point is going to be the national spirit and the attack is going to be effective, but I am worried about the defence a little bit."

In contrast, Austrian fans were more confident about their prospects. "I think we have a very good chance to win this game today and I think when we reach the quarter-finals we can go through to the final and maybe win the pot," said an Austrian fan.

Austria achieved an impressive victory in Group D, finishing ahead of France and the Netherlands with six points. Turkey secured second place in Group F, also with six points.

The teams last met on 26th March in a friendly match, where Austria dominated with a 6-1 victory. Historically, Austria and Turkey have faced each other 17 times, with Austria winning 9 times, Turkey 7 times, and one match ending in a draw.
