An El Al Airlines flight departed from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport on Friday to bring home Israeli football fans who were victim of 'antisemitic violence' in Amsterdam following a Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Footage released by Israel's national emergency service, Magen David Adom (MDA), shows members of its team standing alongside the flight crew aboard the aircraft.
“We are here on a joint El Al flight together with a shipment of paramedics from Magan David Adom. In the next few minutes we are leaving Amsterdam to bring back the Israelis who were hurt,” an MDA representative said. “We are coming to take you home.”
Police arrested 62 people on Thursday after clashes erupted between Israeli football fans and pro-Palestine demonstrators, which left five people hospitalised, according to Dutch Police.
Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema described the violence as an 'outburst' of antisemitic 'hit and run' attacks on the Israeli football fans while police chief, Peter Holla said there were 'incidents on both sides', citing reports claiming Maccabi fans had torn down a Palestinian flag.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister described the incident as a 'serious antisemitic attack'. “This is not a brawl between fans, it's an organisation to harm the Jews and who knows worse than that, by radical antisemitic elements,” he said.
