At least 8 people were killed and 14 injured in a reported Israeli airstrike on the town of Ain Yaaqoub in Akkar, northern Lebanon, the country’s Ministry of Health announced on Monday evening.
Footage shows the wounded and the bodies of the dead being recovered by members of the Lebanese Red Cross. An excavator can be seen working at the scene.
MP Walid Baarini of the 'National Moderation' bloc condemned the alleged Israeli airstrike on his account on platform X (formerly Twitter). "Akkar, like all Lebanon, is currently paying the price for Israeli criminality. Ain Yaaqoub is a new witness of this," he said.
Israel has conducted a ground incursion into parts of southern Lebanon, as well as an ongoing campaign of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets over the past month. Lebanon's Ministry of Health stated that 3,189 have been killed and over 14,078 injured at time of publication.
The current escalation between Israel and Hezbollah began last month with explosions of wireless communications devices used by Hezbollah, which killed dozens and injured thousands. The sides have exchanged cross-border strikes since the outbreak of the 2023 Gaza war.
