Description

Hundreds flooded Beirut's Martyrs Square on Friday to mark the one-month anniversary of the deadly blasts at the city's port, which left at least 190 dead and injured some 6,500.

Bells and sirens sounded across the city to mark the time of the explosions, while attendees also observed a minutes silence and listened to an address from local religious leaders. Marchers lit candles and torches, with many holding symbolic nooses, in reference to calls to execute those responsible for the blasts.

Various locals took the opportunity to express their anger with delays in the investigation, which officials had initially pledged would begin within five days of the tragedy.

"We have come to mention that the results of the investigations have not been issued yet and they promised us that in five days will be issued, a month has passed and nothing yet," complained one local man.

Protests sparked by the blasts led to the eventual resignation of Prime Minister Hassan Diab and his cabinet, while over 300,000 have been left homeless, with Lebanon's former ambassador to Germany, Mustapha Adib, being appointed prime minister on Monday.
