One day before the presidential election in the Islamic Republic, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani encouraged citizens to participate in the elections amid speculations many are set to boycott the elections amid seemingly widespread disillusionment with the administration.
"To boycott the election boxes will not solve any problems for us," said Rouhani while addressing his cabinet in Tehran on Wednesday.
The Iranian President nonetheless acknowledged the hardship many were suffering from amid economic sanctions and criticised the qualification process which saw many being disqualified to run in the presidential race.
Iranian are heading to the polls on Friday. Among candidates, front-runner Chief Justice Ebrahim Raisi is now polling at over 43 percent, followed by the Secretary of the Expediency Council, Mohsen Rezaei, with 3.7 percent.
The winner will replace Rouhani, who first took office in 2013.
