More than 10,000 Tottenham Hotspur fans descended upon Amsterdam ahead of the second-leg semi-final Champions League clash against Ajax on Wednesday. Despite the London club advising its supporters to steer clear of a number of bars in the city where Ajax fans are expected to congregate, the Spurs fans took to the streets chanting songs and drinking alcohol at the bars around the famous Dam Square.
Local authorities have warned fans that drinking alcohol in public is banned even as the police presence has been beefed up today and tomorrow, following hooliganism incidents after the first-leg semis in north London which resulted in three police officers being injured. The first-leg quarter-final against Juventus in Amsterdam also saw more than 140 arrests being made.
Spurs go into the game with a narrow one goal deficit.
