Description

The armed forces of the Central African Republic (CAR) were observed conducting military exercises in Bangui, utilising Russian armoured reconnaissance and patrol vehicles to enhance their combat capabilities.

Footage captured on May 30 showcased servicemen engaging in simulated combat scenarios, firing at mock enemies, and participating in weapon dismantling exercises at a training facility.

Valerie Giscard Ouankian, a senior lieutenant and company commander overseeing armoured reconnaissance and patrol vehicles, expressed gratitude towards Russia for supplying weapons and military hardware, underscoring their importance in bolstering CAR's defence capabilities. "I am very satisfied with the results. Russia can help us achieve better results by supplying even more advanced hardware. By doing so, we will be able to protect all our territories. The military hardware, in particular, armoured reconnaissance and patrol vehicles we received from our Russian allies, allows us to fight. This is very important. It is only possible thanks to these vehicles. This is the key to success," Ouankian remarked, emphasising the pivotal role of these vehicles in safeguarding CAR's territories.

The collaboration between Russia and CAR in the realm of defence extends beyond equipment supply. In December 2020, Russia dispatched 300 military instructors to CAR, and subsequently donated a batch of armoured reconnaissance and patrol vehicles to bolster the nation's security forces.

Furthermore, discussions have been underway regarding the establishment of a Russian military base on CAR's territory. Advisor to the President of the Republic Fidel Ngouandika disclosed that the CAR leadership had proposed this initiative to Russia in January 2024. Negotiations between defence agencies, led by Russian Ambassador Alexander Bikantov, have been ongoing to finalise the details and select an appropriate location for the base.

President Faustin-Archange Touadera acknowledged the assistance provided by Russian instructors in training over 10,000 servicemen, thereby modernising the CAR's armed forces to confront emerging challenges effectively.
