Thousands of fans of the Georgian national football team flooded the streets of Tbilisi on Thursday to celebrate the team's qualification for the Euro 2024 playoffs.

Footage shows White-Reds supporters celebrating in various parts of the city, cheering, chanting, dancing and waving flags at the stadium and on the capital's roads.

"Congratulations to all of Georgia. This is our happiest day. We’re very happy with today’s victory. Long live Georgia!" said one of the cheerleaders.

"First of all, congratulations to our guys for such a big win. Congratulations to everyone in our country who is happy about this victory. This is our historic victory. A very important and historic victory, and we achieved it, we won brilliantly. I congratulate everyone on this victory," said another fan, adding that the victory would go down in the history of the country.

Georgia defeated Portugal 2-0 on Wednesday finishing the group stage in third spot. The team picked up four points and qualified for the round of 16. Georgia is set to meet Spain in the 1/8 final on Sunday 30 June.

The European Championship is held in Germany from 14 June to 14 July.
