Thousands of Georgian football fans gathered in the heart of Tbilisi on Tuesday night to welcome the national team after they made it to the last 16 of the 2024 Euros in Germany.
Footage features locals greeting the bus carrying the players with applause and cheers.
"I'm very proud of the Georgia guys, they’ve played extremely well. History has been made," one young fan Nene Davitashvili said.
Another, Kamran Mikelani, said that the national team’s progress to the Euro 2024 knockout stages gave the Georgian people a huge boost.
"I’m overwhelmed with the feelings I’ve never experienced before. I am so proud to be Georgian, I’m proud of these guys, of this nation, that I cannot even describe what is going on and how we feel," he added.
Georgia beat Portugal 2-0 to finish third in their group and progress to the knockout stages. They were beaten 4-1 by Spain in the last 16, with the Spanish side progressing to the quarter finals against hosts, Germany.
The European Championship is from 14 June to 14 July.
