"The West is still playing zero-sum games. It cannot comprehend the equal interaction, it is still sick with the bacillus of colonialism and neo-colonialism that drives its relationship with the global majority. This relationship is still seen as an opportunity to live at the expense of others, to derive unilateral advantages," he said.
Lavrov also noted that Russia continued to help Burkina Faso in the fight against terrorism, including by developing 'military-technical ties'.
"Russian instructors are working here, and their quantity will increase. Simultaneously, we are training representatives of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies of Burkina Faso in the Russian Federation. So this type of partnership is very specific and very advanced," Lavrov claimed.
For his part, Traore emphasised that the opening of the Russian Embassy in Burkina Faso was a 'significant step forward', claiming that relations between the two were 'reaching a new level'.
"We are also developing co-operation in various areas, first of all in the field of security, but also in terms of, for example, trade and economic relations. Naturally, we have not ignored personnel training: training of specialists, civilian specialists, military personnel, granting scholarships at universities. We are developing co-operation in the field of agriculture, in the field of logistics," Traore added.
Lavrov arrived in Ouagadougou on Tuesday on an official visit as part of his latest African tour. The day before, he visited Conakry to meet Guinean Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouyate, and held talks with Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso and Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso in Oyo.
