The moment a child in a buggy miraculously survived a huge gas explosion in a residential building in Sterlitamak, Bashkiria, was caught on CCTV on Tuesday.

Footage shows the shockwave knocking out the door at the entrance and overturning the stroller.

According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM), one person died as a result of the incident and six people, including two children, were injured and hospitalised.

"A one-year-old girl, who was in a pram near the entrance at the time of the incident, is being examined but does not require hospitalisation," it stated.

The agency added that 11 apartments were damaged in the blast, and rescuers evacuated about 80 residents to temporary shelters.

According to preliminary information from the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bashkortostan, the explosion in the apartment building occurred while the emergency services were working to determine the causes of a gas leak in the building.

Emergency services, including three units of fire-fighting equipment and three ambulances, were dispatched to the scene.

The Russian Investigative Committee launched an inquiry into the "provision of services not meeting the requirements of life safety and causing serious damage to health."
