Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Syrian counterpart Bassam Sabbagh were seen signing a declaration on countering sanctions on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Friday.

Footage shows the two signing the declaration, on ways and means to 'counter, mitigate and compensate for the negative consequences of unilateral coercive measures', as well as shaking hands.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, during the talks, the ministers reviewed the situation in and around Syria, as well as a potential settlement in the region. Lavrov and Sabbagh also discussed the conflicts in the Middle East against the background of the escalation in the Gaza Strip and the sharp deterioration of the situation in Lebanon.

Lavrov arrived in New York on Wednesday to take part in events at the UN General Assembly. The minister is also scheduled to attend several bilateral and multilateral meetings, including those of the CSTO, BRICS, G20 and the Group of Friends for the Defence of the UN Charter.
