Fire trucks and personnel from Russia’s EMERCOM were seen battling a massive blaze that engulfed a petrol station building after an explosion near the city of Makhachkala in the Republic of Dagestan on Friday.

Footage also shows Dagestan's head, Sergei Melikov, inspecting the burning structure and observing the efforts of the operational services. He received a report from Oleg Kolpikov, the acting regional head of EMERCOM.

"All necessary assistance is being provided. The main focus of forces is to rescue people, extinguish the fire and identify the consequences. All services have worked promptly," Melikov stated via his Telegram channel.

Preliminary information from EMERCOM indicates that at least 10 people were killed in the explosion, including two children. Additionally, 21 individuals sustained injuries and were hospitalised following the incident. The petrol station building was destroyed, with the fire spreading over an area of approximately 1,500 square meters.

A total of 119 specialists, equipped with 27 units of machinery and four fire brigades, are currently operating at the site.

In response to the incident, the prosecutor's office of Dagestan has initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire at the petrol station.
