Residents of Zabaykalsky Region in Russia’s Far East are battling a raging wildfire that has engulfed 1,170 hectares.

Footage taken on Wednesday shows huge flames rising high above the forest.

The press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) reported that it has deployed aircraft to battle the blaze.

"Russia's EMERCOM Be-200ChS amphibious aircraft, two Mi-8 helicopters equipped with helibuckets, and extra airmobile rescue teams were sent to ensure the safety of the villages of Chara and Novaya Chara," the report said.

EMERCOM noted that there is currently no threat to residential areas and economic infrastructure.

The local authorities declared a state of emergency on June 3 due to summer wildfires raging across the Zabaykalsky region.
