Description

Syrian Catholics observed celebrated Good Friday in Damascus's Zaitoun Church on Friday.

Footage shows scouts pounding on drams and playing liturgical music before believers flocked to the church and held religious rituals, including the Via Dolorosa, inside Al-Zeitoun Church, also known as the cathedral of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, in Bab Sharqi district, east of the Syrian capital.

Layan Menna, a participant, said that more people are praying for peace, especially amid the current situations in Syria and Gaza.

"This is the first time I have seen such many worshippers since the beginning of the war,” she said.

Rola Abboud, a tourist who came from southern Lebanon to take part in the celebrations in Syria, prayed for ‘evil to stay away from the entire Arab world'.

Catholics all over the world celebrate Good Friday, also known as the Holy Friday, by reenacting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
