Masoud Pezeshkian's presidential campaign manager slammed the reformist's election runoff rival Saeed Jalili during a press conference in Tehran on Sunday, claiming the candidate's political experience level 'is almost zero'.

"On the one hand, in terms of performance, and experience, his record is almost zero, Mr. Jalili has no performance experience. He was the head of some council, but he was brilliant in the bad work," said the campaign manager, Ali Abdolalizadeh.

"He did not allow FATF to be implemented in the country, one of the main factors of which is Jalili. The resolutions issued against Iran and the sanctions based on them are Mr. Jalili's fault," he continued.

His remarks came after the announcement of the results of the first round of Iran's snap presidential election, in which none of the candidates secured a majority.

Under Iranian electoral law, a run-off election is held between the top two candidates if neither receives more than 50% of all votes cast, including blank ballots, in the first round.

Candidates with the highest number of votes, namely, Pezeshkian and Jalili will now head to the run-off.

"Pezeshkiyan has been always in the middle of executive tasks since he was a student. When he was a student at Tabriz Faculty of Medicine he was busy with students' executive tasks and facilitating other students' affairs," Abdolalizadeh said.

The results from the first round of the election show that Pezeshkiyan received 42 percent of the vote, while Jalili garnered 39 percent. The second round of the election is scheduled for 5 July.

The election was held a year ahead of schedule due to the 19 May helicopter crash that killed President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and six others in the northwestern mountains.
